Sen. Robinhood “Robin” C. Padilla made the proper motion during a parliamentary procedure where the Senate took up on second reading a bill declaring Feb. 1 as the National Day of Awareness on the Hijab and other Traditional Garments and Attire.
This was stressed Monday by no less than Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito, who said the episode – which went viral on social media – stressed the need for lawmakers to familiarize themselves with Filipino, which Padilla uses.
“Yung nag-viral na video tungkol sa isa sa mga session namin kamakailan ay nangangahulugan na dapat magsanay na rin ako at ang mga kasama ko sa paggamit ng parliamentary terms na nakasalin sa Filipino (The video that went viral recently means I and my colleagues must familiarize ourselves with the use of parliamentary terms in Filipino),” Ejercito said in a post on his Facebook account.
“Ipinaalala sa akin ng legislative staff ng Senado na iyon na pala ang tamang motion at hindi ko po ito napansin dahil nasanay ako sa Ingles na parliamentary terms at procedures. Yes, it was a lapse on my part that I didn’t notice it was already the proper motion in Filipino (My legislative staff in the Senate reminded me that Padilla made the right motion and I did not immediately notice it because I was used to using the English language. It was a lapse on my part that i didn’t notice it was the proper motion in Filipino),” he added.
He noted Padilla is hardworking and studious, and uses Filipino in Senate deliberations both at the committee and plenary levels.
Ejercito also thanked Padilla for using Filipino and for reminding his colleagues to continue their efforts to use the language.
“Maraming salamat, Sen. Robin, sa paggamit ng ating sariling wika at sa pagpapaalala sa amin na kailangang magsanay pa tayo rito (Thank you Sen. Robin for using our national language and for reminding us that we should continuously familiarize ourselves with it),” he said..
